The wrestling teams from Linn-Mar and Marion high schools will both compete at the Class 3A district tournament Saturday at Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Individual berths to this year's state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Feb. 17-20 are on the line.

The teams from Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Washington, Iowa City High, 3A second-ranked Iowa City West and Cedar Rapids Xavier will join the Lions and Indians in Saturday's district field. West enters the meet as the only team ranked in the top 10 and boasts nine ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes.

The top two place winners at each weight class advance to the individual state meet, and the team champion and runner-up advance to a regional dual meet on Feb. 23.

Senior Austin Weisinger, Marion's 125-pounder, is the only returning state qualifier from either Marion or Linn-Mar. Weisinger qualified at 125 pounds as a junior last season but was pinned in both of his matches.

Weisinger will take a 30-4 record and a No. 9 state ranking (The Predicament) into Saturday's district meet. He will be in a bracket that includes sixth-ranked sophomore Luke Kremen from Iowa City West.

Linn-Mar has three wrestlers ranked in The Predicament's latest 3A rankings. Freshman Joel Northrup is seventh at 103, senior Michael Green fourth at 215 and junior Mac Mahmens 10th at 285.

Northrup will be in a 103-pound bracket that is expected to include top-ranked freshmen Kegan Wakefield of West. If Green wrestles, he could eventually come up against No. 5 Mickey Pelfrey of West. Mahmens is in a weight class with No. 5 Conner Herman of Jefferson and No. 9 Josh McDonald of Xavier.

Marion and Linn-Mar each completed their dual meet seasons last week. Marion (7-6) beat Mount Pleasant, 50-20, and lost to Pleasant Valley, 49-15, in a double-dual at Mount Pleasant. Linn-Mar decked Cedar Falls, 53-18, to finish 17-9 overall and 6-2 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
