The Linn-Mar girls basketball team closed off an undefeated season with a 38-35 triumph over Des Moines East tonight, Saturday, March 6.

Heading into the 4A final round match-up this evening, both teams were undefeated with 25-0 records. Des Moines East held the Lions to only three scorers all night: Kiah Stokes, D.J. Norman and Kiley Haines.

With the fourth period winding down, the teams stood tied, 33-33, until a late-game three-point shot by Haines put the Lions ahead.

The Linn-Mar victory is the first girls state championship in 25 years. In addition to the Lion win, the Mount Vernon Mustangs pulled in the Class 2A State title last night, Friday, March 5.
