Marion junior Leah Smith has been named first-team All-WaMaC Conference West Division in a vote by league coaches.
Smith was the only Marion player named to either first or second teams, but senior Alyssa Biery and freshman Beth Knapp received honorable mention notice.
In related news, Biery was named to the first team and Smith to the second team of the All-Metro honor squads, voted on by the coaches at the seven Cedar Rapids and Marion high schools - Jefferson, Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Marion, Prairie, Washington and Xavier.
According to statistics reported on quikstatsiowa.com, Smith batted .374 (43-for-115), with nine extra-base hits, 18 RBIs and a team-high 29 runs scored for the Indians, who finished their season with records of 11-24 overall and 3-18 in conference play.
Biery's numbers were even more impressive, making her all-conference snub all the more surprising. According to quikstatsiowa, Biery batted .495 (49-for-99) with team-highs of three home runs, 10 doubles and 31 RBIs.
Knapp hit .273 (30-for-110) with 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored. |
